The Fijian Elections Office says the statement by an organization holding itself out as the Media Watch Group saying that the General Election is on 26th November, is incorrect.

Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem says the Constitution is very clear.

Saneem says following the conclusion of three and six months of Parliament, the Prime Minister may advice the President at any time to dissolve Parliament and issue the Writ for the Election.

He says this is a necessity, and this does not mean that the Parliament would have to convene and vote for a majority for the Parliament to be dissolved but it’s directly on the advice of the Prime Minister to the President.

The Fijian Elections Office urges all groups such as Fiji Media Watch group to seek clarification from the office before publically announcing any position in law as they may end up misleading voters.
