The Minister for Employment Jone Usamate says the government will ensure that parents send their children to school or they will face the consequences of the law.

He says there should not be any excuses for not sending children to school as government has assisted all families in Fiji through  free education.

Usamate has received reports from members of the community of Navakawau village in Taveuni on the number of children that have left school and not willing to go back.

Usamate says that it is both the social and legal responsibility of both parents and guardians to ensure that their children are given proper discipline and education.

He stressed that children need not to be burdened on the welfare of their families and must be in school during school hours adding that children must not engage in any child labour activities that deprive them of their development – children are for education and not for work.
