There has been a reduction in the number of accidents and incidents at sea and this is due to the increase in training provided and professionalism shown by Seafarers.
Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji Acting CEO Captain Philip Hill highlighted this in a press conference while providing an update on the World Maritime Day Celebration which will be held tomorrow.
Captain Hill says that this years celebration will especially acknowledge Seafarers who are always at the forefront to provide safe transportation both domestically and internationally.
Hill says that Fiji has Seafarers who are now engaged in international shipping, most of whom are Masters and Chief Engineers in Europe and South East Asia.
10 Schools will be attending the celebration tomorrow and they will be participating in a quiz competition in relation to the event.
The formal celebration program is expected to begin at Ratu Sukuna Park at 9am tomorrow with the Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Parveen Bala officiating as Chief Guest.
