A Chinese national charged with a corruption related offences had his bail variation application dismissed by the Suva High Court.
Qian Jun Shi had applied to seek the court’s permission to temporarily lift the Stop Departure order placed on him to allow him to travel to China to get married and register his newborn child.
FICAC counsel, Laite Bokini objected to this stating that he was a flight risk and there was no strong reason for him to return to Fiji if the application to travel was allowed.
He was charged by FICAC last October with one count of Bribery alongside another Chinese national for allegedly offering a bribe to employees of the Land Transport Authority.
While giving the ruling, High Court Judge Justice Thushara Rajasinghe stated that he did not find any special facts or circumstances to justify the review of this application.
