Families of children admitted at the CWM Hospital in Suva will now greatly benefit from a more comfortable and supportive environment following the official opening of the new and upgraded Ronald MacDonald Family Room.

While officiating at the event, Acting Prime Minister and Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum stressed the new improved facility by the Ronald MacDonald House Charities Fiji is a strong indication of how the private sector can work with government to be able to provide aid to ordinary Fijians.

Sayed-Khaiyum says the new $165,000 improved facility will ensure that families whose children are admitted at the CWM Hospital no longer have to feel that they are in a hospital environment.

The Chairman of Ronald MacDonald House Charities Fiji, Marc McElrath says the Family Room will also greatly benefit families who travel from afar as it would save them their travel expenses.

McElrath says they are in the process of the next phase of their support work in other hospitals around the country.

The family room offers a small kitchen which contains a microwave, hot water urn and refrigerator while in the Living area there are couches and lounge chairs and a television.

The Ronald MacDonald House Charities Fiji will also provide daily staffing to help with the day to day running of the family room.

The organisation has also provided 12 beds for mothers at the Pediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care Units at the CWM Hospital.
