Fiji’s first ever embryo transfer program on cattle has been a success following the birth of calves at the Ministry of Agriculture’s Sigatoka Research Station.
Minister for Agriculture, Inia Seruiratu during a visit to the Sigatoka Research Station had said the Ministry had collaborated with Australian Reproductive Technologies to improve the cattle industry.
Seruiratu says through its concerted efforts to modernize the agriculture sector, the Ministry is working on improving Fiji’s dairy and beef industry through the implementation of the Embryo Transfer Technology program.
He says this is Fiji’s first time ever to trial and implement embryo transfer technology and it is a historic achievement for the Ministry as they have witnessed the next stage of the program with the birth of the 40 calves.
The Minister acknowledged the tremendous work and technical contributions of Australian Reproductive Technologies in improving Fiji’s dairy and beef industry.
Australian Reproductive Technologies Managing Director, Simon Walton says the result of the embryo transfer will boost the industry.
