It was all smiles for the Chinese Community today as they have opened their new language space at the Library Services of Fiji Headquarters in Nasese.

While opening the new corner today which was initiated by the Chinese Government, the Permanent Secretary for Education Allison Burchell says that this space has non-fiction and fiction books together with 20,000 e-books.

Burchell says that this gives an opportunity for improvement of literacy level and knowledge.

She says that China is very good at people to people diplomacy and this enables more people in Fiji to understand the Chinese culture and history.

Burchell says it is interesting because the Chinese history is well documented.

She says that they have also offered to translate books from English, i-Taukei and Hindi to Chinese and put them into the library.

Burchell acknowledged the Chinese government and stated that they are happy to add aspects of Chinese knowledge to the library.

The idea of a Chinese corner originated from a visit by the Hunan delegation from China.

The corner also consists of 6000 books and all Fijians are encouraged to make use of the facility.
