Two cases where Jone Vakarisi Junior has been charged with offences relating to assault was called before Suva Magistrate Deepika Prakash.

In the 2016 case Vakarisi Junior has been charged with two counts of act with intent to cause grievous bodily harm where he is alleged to have run over two students.

In another case Vakarisi and seven of his associates namely Tevita Bulanaivalu, Ledua Gudru, Sekove Serukalou, Jese Sorovi, Toni Sokoiwasa, Chanel Antonio and Mark Ross, have been charged with going equipped for theft, criminal intimidation, damaging property and resisting arrest.

The men allegedly struck a police car with iron rods, cane knives, and stones, with police officers still inside and unable to get out.

The Police car sustained extensive damage.

Both matters were today called for hearing however upon the mutual agreement of state and defense, the hearing date in the 2016 case has been deferred to the 12th and the 13th of March next year.

State lawyers have said that two key state witnesses in the case have migrated overseas.

As a result, the hearing date for the second matter has also been deferred to the 17th and the 18th of April next year.

Jone Vakarisi Junior has been remanded in custody.
