One of the biggest upsets on day one came from Argentina as they beat South Africa 17-12 while Spain also thrashed Wales 35-7.
The Fiji 7s team will face USA in the Cup quarterfinal at 9.06 tonight.
Fiji met USA in January this year in the Sydney 7s and lost 24-7 after USA starved Fiji of possession and forced the national side into committing errors.
USA has some of the most experienced players in the World 7s series like Perry Baker, Danny Barrett, Captain Madison Hughes, Martin Iosefo, Carlin Isles, Matai Leuta, Folau Niua and Ben Pinkelman.
These players were part of the USA team that defeated Fiji in the Sydney 7s in January.
