We will get a lot of cancer cases in the next few years.

This was revealed by Dr Rajeev Patel of CWM Hospital who was speaking at the ‘Win Against Cancer ‘ seminar organised by MIOT International.

Dr Patel says this is so because the life expectancy of Fijians has increased and men and women are now living longer.

He says from the population census last year where 20 percent of the population is 50 years and more, while 40 percent of the population is at an age which will become high risk of getting cancer. He says they will need to cater for these people in the next few years.

Meanwhile he says the Public Private Partnership is coming on board and he hopes that someone provides Radiotherapy, which will be a big undertaking.

He says it will not only be a good opportunity for Fiji but there will be an opportunity for medical tourism from neighbouring islands to come into the country.
