The search for seven people reported missing at sea is continuing this morning.

The Fiji Maritime Surveillance Rescue Coordination Centre says that RFNF Kikau has been deployed earlier this morning to assist in the search which was called off at 9pm last night.

Police had earlier said that the seven people were in a yellow fibre‑glass boat which left Nawaikama village in Gau at 5am Wednesday morning for Levuka.

They arrived in Levuka and did some shopping and departed from Levuka at 9am to head back to Gau.

By yesterday morning a report was received that they still have not made it back to Nawaikama.

The Rescue Centre says that an aerial search will also take place from 9am within the Lomaiviti Waters.

Anyone with any information is requested to contact the Fiji Maritime Surveillance Rescue Coordination Centre on 3316204 or call Police on 919 or 9905563.
