Serious concerns are being raised by employees of Quality Print PTE Limited after they were denied 5 days of paid Family Care Leave which was announced in the 2018/2019 National Budget.

A letter issued by the Company’s Founder and Chairman Dewan Chand Maharaj to the employees said that the company does not recognize the 5 days of Paid Family Care Leave.

In a letter issued by Maharaj, he said that the employees are only entitled to 33 days of leave per year which included 10 days of Sick Leave, 10 days of Annual Leave, 10 days of Public Holiday Leave and 3 days of Bereavement Leave.

When questioned by Fijivillage as to why this was being done, Maharaj said that he is not aware of the 5 days of Family Care Leave.

We then informed Maharaj that an announcement was made about this in the 2018/2019 National Budget and it has come into from the 1st of this month.

Maharaj then said that he will only allow his employees 5 days of Family Care Leave once he sees a written legislation regarding this issue.

We are also trying to contact the Minister for Employment Parveen Bala on this issue.
