Messi earns nearly double the wages of great rival Cristiano Ronaldo, according to L’Equipe’s annual salary report.

The French publication has crunched the numbers to reveal the top 10 highest‑paid footballers in the world, with Messi at the top.

Express.co.uk reports the Barcelona star picks up around 7.3 million pounds before tax, which is 3.2m pounds more than Ronaldo.

Of the top 10 identified by the French publication, five players play in the La Liga while only two represent the English Premier League.
