The 91st Academy Awards, or Oscars ceremony will be held today without a host for the first time in 30 years.
It is arguably the most prestigious awards in the showbiz calendar when the film industry’s finest actors come together to celebrate the year’s best movies, actors and all those who work tirelessly behind the scenes in production ‑ all hoping to walk home with one of the golden statuettes.
This year The Favourite, a fictional drama based on Queen Anne, and Roma, Netflix’s semi‑autobiographical drama about a housekeeper in Mexico, lead the nominations , with 10 each.
A Star is Born, starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper and Vice are also big contenders, with eight nominations.
The 91st Academy Awards are being held at the Dolby Theatre, in Los Angeles, California will begin at 1pm today.
