Fiji’s lone gold medalist in the Commonwealth Games last year, Weightlifter Eileen Cikamatana has confirmed that she has no plans in the future to represent Fiji again.

Speaking to Fijivillage from Noumea, Cikamatana says that she was hopeful that talks to have her continue competing for Fiji would transpire but nothing eventuated.

Following the Commonwealth Games last year, Cikamatana was informed by Weightlifting Fiji that she will train under a new coach but refused and preferred Joe Vueti as her coach.

The 19-year-old says that while she continues training and studying in New Caledonia, she is now awaiting the processing of her Australian passport before she begins to represent Australia.

When questioned by Fijivillage on why nothing was done to retain the services of Eileen Cikamatana.

Weightlifting Fiji President Atma Maharaj says that he would respond later.

Fijivillage also questioned Weightlifting Fiji on why they did not nominate Cikamatana for Sportswoman of the Year for the FASANOC Sports awards.

We are yet to get a response.
