The Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee says they are disappointed that Commonwealth gold medalist Eileen Cikamatana does not have any future plans to represent Fiji.
FASANOC CEO Lorraine Mar says that they respect the path that Cikamatana has chosen to take adding that it is unfortunate that Fiji is losing a talented athlete because of a dispute between her and Weightlifting Fiji.
Mar says that FASANOC is saddened that this has happened but it is out of their control as they are governed by rules and regulations and that the Sporting Federation, Weightlifting Fiji operate independently and should have sorted it out themselves as FASANOC cannot interfere.
Following the Commonwealth Games last year, Cikamatana was informed by Weightlifting Fiji that she will train under a new coach but refused and preferred Joe Vueti as her coach.
Cikamatana, who has not competed for Fiji since winning Fiji’s only gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games has confirmed to Fijivillage that she will not be representing Fiji in the future.
Weightlifting Fiji President Atma Maharaj has not responded to our questions.
