Leaders on specialised clinical services in the Pacific gathered in Suva today to share and co-ordinate ideas to help tackle the growing burden of diseases in the region.

Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete while officiating at the event says that diseases in the region are stretching the limits of the regions capacity, causing countries to dig deep with the scarcity of what they have.

Waqainabete says this meeting will also involve discussions on sub‑regional collaboration for specialized healthcare services.

He says the Fijian Government’s recent venture into partnership with Australia based Aspen Medical Pty Limited will see overseas quality medical services brought right to the doorsteps of Fijian citizens at affordable costs.

The Minister says Fiji is also assisting other Pacific Island countries in this area.

Waqainabete adds it is vitally important, as leaders, to ensure that our health resources are being employed in the most efficient and effective ways.

The two days meeting will end tomorrow.
