A 20-year-old man convicted of aggravated robbery has been jailed for 4 years 7 months by Suva High Court Judge Justice Daniel Goundar.

Timoci Tikina had pleaded guilty to robbing his employer of $3,180 and a mobile phone in Kinoya.

During the robbery he threatened to kill the man with a cane knife.

In his sentence, Justice Goundar said when Tikina was arrested he said he spent the money on alcohol, a rental car and his friends.

Justice Goundar said Tikina had said that he stole from his employer because he did not pay his wages.

The man’s early guilty plea and record as a first time offender were considered as mitigating factors by Justice Goundar.

But the Judge also considered the breach of trust between the man and his employer in the sentence.

There is no non-parole period.
