The Fiji Women’s Crisis Center and the Australian government has so far injected close to a million dollars towards a center in Suva where they will accommodate girls who are survivors of domestic violence.
This has been confirmed by Fiji Women’s Crisis Center Executive Director Shamima Ali saying the flat is currently under renovation and will be available within the next three months.
Ali says the flat will accommodate survivors who are 18-years-old and they will assist them in getting a career.
Ali says there will also be high security and they will rotate the occupants once those that are in the center are able to look after themselves in catering for their needs and wants.
She says the national survey of 2011 shows that in Fiji 64 percent of women suffer from domestic violence, most of whom are girls below the age of 16.
