The Fiji Revenue and Customs Service aims to collect $3 billion in revenue in the 2018/2019 financial year.
This was highlighted by their Director Revenue Management Fazrul Rahman to the Public Accounts Committee today.
Rahman says that it took Fiji about 80 years to collect $1 billion in revenue, then it took 10 years to collect $2 billion and now they are aiming for $3 billion.
Rahman also added that with their new IT system revenue collection is also expected to increase.
Fiji Revenue and Customs Service CEO Vishvanath Das says that for the 2017-2018 fiscal year they collected $2.8 billion, which was an increase of 9.67 percent from the previous financial year.
Das says Value Added Tax continues to be the major revenue earner for them as in the 2017-2018 fiscal year, VAT amounted to 32% of revenue collected.
