It will be a special 8th birthday for Skylar Lee today after she received a life-saving heart surgery organized by the Sai Prema Foundation this week at the CWM Hospital and performed by specialists from Fiji, India, Australia, USA and Oman.
Skylar says she now looks to play sports without any issues.
She says before when she used to play she used to get tired and her heart was sore.
Skylar’s grandmother, Moira Lee says Skylar has now got a new lease of life.
Moira says her granddaughter always had tonsilitis but they recently found out about the heart disease.
She says they are grateful for the specialists that have performed the surgery.
Meanwhile, the team has performed 8 surgeries and they will be in the country till next week.
They hope to perform another 12 surgeries.
Medical Director for Sai Prema Foundation Fiji Dr. Krupali Tappoo says these children were identified with various heart complications after 76 children went through heart screenings last week in the Children’s Heart Screening Centre at the Sri Sathya Sanjeevani Medical Centre in Nasese.

Dr. Tappoo says since 2016, the Sai Prema Foundation has managed to assist 54 children through these free heart surgeries project for the poor and needy children of Fiji.
