The Minister for Defence and National Security, Inia Seruiratu says that it is a prerogative as Defence Ministers to ensure the maintenance of security, sovereignty and territorial integrity of not only individual States but also that of our region.
While speaking at the 4th South Pacific Defence Ministers Meeting Seruiratu says that this Meeting has expanded into an enduring security platform which underwrites the region’s continued stability and prosperity.
Seruiratu says that Pacific Leaders in 2018 forged a new regional security arrangement recognizing climate change as the single greatest non‑traditional threat to the livelihoods, security and well-being of the Pacific people.
He also acknowledged the outcomes of the 2017 South Pacific Defence Ministers Meeting.
Seruiratu has urged all members to take advantage of the Defence exercise platform as outlined in the POVAI framework that promotes a learning environment to progress women participation in peace and security.
