Vodafone Fiji women’s team rep Sofi Vunibola has become the first Fijian soccer player to attend trials in France.
Fiji Football Association President Rajesh Patel says this is a huge achievement for Vunibola and Fiji Football as whole as she is attending nine days of trials with French Ligue 1 club Reims that got promoted to the top division in French League.
Patel says that Fiji Football Association has taken care of all expenses for the trials and if Vunibola is successful in her trials she will become a professional soccer player.
Patel also highlighted that National football coach Christophe Gamel has accompanied Vubnibola to the trials as he is the one who initiated talks with the Reims Club Coach for Vunibola to showcase her talent.
Meanwhile, Vunibola says she has always had a passion for the sport of soccer but never imagined she would get an opportunity to go for trials in France.
Vunibola comes from a football family as her dad played for Savusavu and Labasa team while her brother Iliesa Lino played for Lautoka and now Labasa team.
She has also featured for the national women’s soccer team in the Oceania Championship and South Pacific Games.
The trials in France begin today and will end next Saturday.
