Fiji Weightlifting Coach, Henry Elder says that the young team will be competing for development and are not expecting to win any medals at the IWF Junior World Championship that begins this Saturday.
Elder says that he has worked a lot with the lifters in the basic fundamentals on functional and basic strength as well as their techniques.
He says that work over the past six months continues as eight weight-lifters make final preparations for the IWF Junior World Championship that begins this Saturday.
The eight weightlifters who will represent Fiji at the IWF Junior Weightlifting Championships include, Adi Wini Mekula in the 59Kg, Rebecca Johns in the 64Kg, Merewalesi Vuso-nitokalau in the 81Kg, Helen Seipua in the 87+Kg, Maika Taukei-nikoro in the 61Kg Samuela Nasila in the 67Kg, Maloni Sadranu in the 73Kg and Timothy Vakurui-valu in the 96Kg.
Elder also highlighted with the exception of Timothy Vakuruivalu, this will be the first major competition for all the other lifters.
64 countries will be competing at the IWF Junior Weightlifting Championships in Suva from this Saturday till next Wednesday.
