A 20‑year‑old man has been jailed by the Lautoka High Court for 14 years after pleading guilty to raping his nephew and two nieces in separate incidents.
The man raped his 5‑year‑old nephew when they were alone together at their family house during the school holidays in August 2017.
He also raped his two 7‑year‑old nieces in October 2017 after taking them to an isolated area in a village in Sigatoka.
It was heard in court that the three victims told their relatives what had happened a few days later and it was reported to Police.
In his sentence, Acting High Court Judge Rangajeeva Wimalasena considered the vulnerability of the victims due to their young age, breach and abuse of trust as the uncle and the effects of emotional and psychological trauma on the victims.
A non‑parole period of 10 years has been set.
