Hundreds of residents in Navua and nearby areas are currently without power supply after underground power cables were damaged by a contractor while carrying out construction works for the Fiji Road Authority.

The incident occurred along Waidradra Road in Deuba.

Energy Fiji Limited says areas affected include whole of Navua, Navua Hospital, Ranadi Plantation, Grade Road Food Company, Navua Town, part of Queens Road from Namelimeli to the junction of Viti Levu Drive and Queens Road, and all side roads in‑between.

EFL teams are currently testing the damaged cables before proceeding to carry out excavation work to expose the damaged cables in order to carry out repair works.

Power supply to the affected areas is expected to be restored around midnight tonight.
