We want to provide 100% access to electricity to all households in Fiji by the end of 2021.

This was highlighted by the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Jone Usamate during the Seminar for the Project for the introduction of Hybrid Power Generation System in Pacific Island countries at Holiday Inn, Suva.

He also says there are more than 200 communities in Fiji whom they are targeting to transform their electricity supplies from diesel to other sustainable forms.

He says those communities that use diesel for power in Viti Levu, Taveuni and Ovalau are to be totally renewable energy focused.

Usamate had earlier said that JICA has assisted in solar and hydro energy in Fiji by contributing $3.7 million to this project and their plans are to provide hybrid systems because of the supply of 24 hours of electricity.
