Stakeholders of the transport industry must be proactive in identifying and building core areas where infrastructure must be uplifted to set the stage for our nation’s development.
Speaking at the official opening of the 2018/2019 National Transport Consultative Bi-Sector Forum at De Vos on the Park, Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Jone Usamate says government has clearly set the priorities and the direction that they must take in addressing the economy of Fiji to develop sustainable, inclusive, resilient and a low carbon future for our country.
Usamate also says the government recognizes the importance of the transport sector contributing about 8% towards Fiji’s GDP, enabling development, linking people, connecting local communities to the world, building markets and facilitating trade.
He adds the biannual consultative forum will give them another chance to revisit our national performance and discuss the best ways for us to bring changes that will create opportunities for all Fijians whilst nurturing and sustaining Fiji’s pristine environment.
He says to achieve their goals and create a bright future they must rely closely on the people, always act in their interests and work in an industrious, honest and creative way.
