59-year-old Prem Wati of Omkar Road is a happy woman today as she now has a home to call her own.

The Narere community, Bhajan groups and various individuals had collected over $1,500 and other building materials to build Wati’s new home.

Wati had been living in a two room corrugated house for over 40 years.

She was given a piece of land to build her home in 2017.

She got help from the Narere Community and other groups after the Lands Ministry had instructed her to build her home as soon as possible or the land would be confiscated.

Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources, Ashneel Sudhakar says Wati has been given a 99 year lease under the Squatter Regularisation Policy.

He has also requested the Ministry of Social Welfare to assess Wati’s situation as she has been living on her own for the past 15 years and has no source of income other than what the government provides.
