The Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation has assisted 293 women who attended the National Women’s Expo in getting a “Fijian Crafted” licence since 2014.

Minister Mereseini Vuniwaqa says five women have graduated from the expo and have gained access to markets that were opened to them during the annual expo.

She says that women during this expo have collectively earned over half a million dollars through the sale of their craft.

SODELPA MP, Salote Radrodro then asked the Vuniwaqa about how the ministry would assist women who were unable to sell all their produce during the expo.

Vuniwaqa says the initial purpose of the expo was to celebrate the talent of women in this country.

Vuniwaqa added that in order to meet the demand of the tourism market, women have elevated the quality of their products.

She says the ministry is in the process of identifying five products from the National Women’s Expo.

The ministry would then get groups of women to produce and supply these products to the need in the market.

Vuniwaqa adds the ministry has also launched a program that would enable women to use information communication technology increase their access to new markets.

Vuniwaqa says this program - Catalyzing Women’s Entrepreneurship - will enhance the ability of women to economically empower themselves and market their products.
