SODELPA MP, Niko Nawaikula says it is sad that Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum as well as Minister For Environment Dr Mahendra Reddy are coming to parliament and talking about the environment and climate change legislation and later flying balloons filled with Helium while Sayed-Khaiyum says the balloons were released to check the level of ozone depletion.

While giving his reply to Sayed-Khaiyum’s Ministerial Statement on Climate Change, Nawaikula says it’s a disgrace to the Prime Minister who was the President of COP 23.

Sayed-Khaiyum had earlier explained the purpose of releasing the Helium filled balloons.

Naiwaikula added that it doesn’t matter what the balloons do when they are released.

Meanwhile, National Federation Party Leader Professor Biman Prasad says he is happy with the assurance that the bill which will be tabled in September will have extensive and holistic consultation.

Prasad says he thinks it is going to be an important law that will allow Fiji to meet it’s commitment internationally.

He says he has noticed there are so many plans and there will be so many things happening at one time and better connectivity is needed.
