A man has been acquitted of one count of rape by the Lautoka High Court.
He had been accused of raping an 18-year-old girl in 2016 in Nadi.
The got pregnant and the matter was then reported to Police by the father.
In his judgment, High Court Judge Justice Sunil Sharma rejected the evidence of the complainant as unbelievable and unreliable saying the prosecution has not been able to prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt.
Justice Sharma said there are many doubts in the case and in that view it is unsafe to convict the accused based on the discredited evidence of the complainant.
