Two sugar mills are receiving high amounts of burnt cane which is affecting the sugar make significantly.
The Fiji Sugar Corporation says mill staff are working with stakeholders to improve this.
Lautoka Sugar Mill has received 74% burnt cane, Rarawai received 75% and Labasa got 34% of burnt cane in the crushing season so far.

The FSC says burnt cane not only affects the quality of cane and sugar make, it is also destroying the environment, in particular the soil health, as the fires destroy the many insects and organisms.
Meanwhile, as of the 23rd of this month, the three sugar mills have crushed a total of 1,012,234 tonnes of cane, with a sugar make of 98,852 tonnes.
