A mural titled “A walk through our future” on the Stinson Parade Bridge has been painted by students of International School Suva to raise awareness on climate change by reminding people about the beauty of the ocean and why or how we must protect it.
Year 11 student of International School Suva, Sarah Du says human activity is one of the major causes of climate change, which is why the mural reminds people to keep the ocean clean as a healthy ocean is needed for a stable climate.
She says her group called colourfullives.fj is a group of year 11 students that are very passionate about all forms of art.
Du says the group is currently working with an NGO called Mobile Kindy where they visit local settlements and do arts and crafts while also engaging them in many activities to build their confidence.
Du also says that the group is planning an art exhibition in January next year where they will be showcasing kids' work from the settlement alongside the students' work.
She adds that all these works will be up for auction and each artist will be sponsoring a child from the settlement.
