Police have confirmed that the 45-year-old man who allegedly stabbed his ex-wife several times in Samabula on the 2nd of this month, allegedly committed suicide while in custody last night.
Police are continuing with their investigations and have not released further details at this stage.
The man appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday and was remanded in custody.
The man was charged with one count each of Attempted Murder, Aggravated Robbery, and Criminal Intimidation.
He allegedly stabbed the ex-wife opposite bakery in Samabula at the junction of Fulaga Street and Namuka Street at around 8 o’clock on the 2nd of this month.
The woman has been discharged from the hospital.
Witnesses say they heard screams and when they attended to the victim, they saw that she had been stabbed twice in the chest and was heavily covered in blood.
A few bystanders tried to stop the man however they were unsuccessful.
