The National Disaster Management Office says the current threat for everyone is heavy rain as a Tropical Depression continues to move closer to Fiji.

All four Divisional Emergency Operation Centres have been activated.

NDMO Director Vasiti Soko says all evacuation centres are also on standby.

She is urging everyone to re-look at their travel plans or any big events already planned.

Soko also says they are sharing information with Police, the RFMF and Fiji Navy who are on standby.

Soko adds that the NDMO is working closely with the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji to monitor movement of vessels in the maritime areas while Fiji Airways has issued a statement advising the public that they have cancelled a flight from Nadi to Funafuti and Funafuti to Nadi.

Please make a Disaster Plan now and that should include a secure location or shelter for evacuation, conduct drills with family members, school or villages so that they are aware of their response plan.

Involve all family members including children, people living with disabilities in the Disaster Plan.

Get emergency contacts, an emergency kit and a battery-powered radio.
