The Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s team will have to improve on their defence and support play to prevent history from repeating itself when they will take on New Zealand in their second pool match of the Sydney 7s.

Fiji met New Zealand in the 2019 Sydney 7s semi-final where they lost 36-14 and defence and support play played a crucial part in that loss.

The two teams have also met once this season where New Zealand beat Fiji 24-7 in the semis of Cape Town 7s.

Kenya will be Fiji’s first hurdle. Kenya have defeated Fiji a couple of times in previous seasons and their memorable win came in the 2016 Singapore 7s final where Fiji was outclassed 30-7.

Wales is another team that Fiji will have to be wary of as they always bring a strong game against Fiji.

Fiji kick-off their Sydney 7s campaign against Kenya at 3.09pm tomorrow, they then play New Zealand at 9.33pm tomorrow and play Wales at 2.19pm Sunday in their last pool match.

The semi-finals start at 5.20pm Sunday while the final will be played at 9.56pm Sunday.

The women’s competition starts at 10.30am tomorrow with the Fijian playing USA. The men’s competition kicks off at 12.57pm tomorrow with USA taking on Scotland.
