The World Bank will continue to closely follow the lead taken by Australia and New Zealand over the Fiji government.
In light of Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama last week saying that the International Monetary Fund and World Bank expressed support for Fiji at the agency's annual meetings in Turkey, Radio New Zealand reports otherwise.
Radio New Zealand reports that the World Bank's Sydney office said while officials will travel to Fiji, they are doing so to get a better sense of the situation here, adding there are no immediate plans to provide loans to Fiji.
It had been reported that Bainimarama had said that the World Bank and IMF are both ready to engage with Fiji and have shown excellent support for the structural reform policies that have been ignored for too long.
Bainimarama informed the meeting about Fiji's deliberation on economical development and reform programs.
Bainimarama had said that the agencies also back the structural changes his government has made and plan to visit early next month for further dialogue.
