The Fiji Employers Federation has welcomed the move by Government in making it compulsory for companies to take on attachees however it said there are still some grey areas.
This is after the gazetting of the National Employment centre Decree which said that any company that has more than fifty employees will need to take on five percent of their total workforce as attachees.
Federation General Secretary, Nesbitt Hazelman said the initiative of the National Employment Centre is good however the question that needs to be addressed is the cut-off age.
Hazelman said the process would see the NEC handing over to the company a list of names of people they are to take on for a six months attachment.
He goes on to add that while the main aim of the NEC is to ensure that unemployed people in the country get life-skills training, the whole out-look of the economy needs to be looked at.
At the moment 5,300 people have registered with the National Employment Centre and will be starting their life skills training this month.
