The Fiji Sugar Corporation has managed to strike a deal with sugar buyer Tate and Lyle which will see Fiji getting a substantial price from exports of sugar.
This has been confirmed by FSC Chairman Abdul Khan who said that the price we expected to get is very close to the world market price.
Khan also said that sugar production is also expected to increase this crushing season.
Meanwhile Fiji has imported ten thousand tonnes of sugar from Thailand this year to meet our local demand before the crushing season.
The price that Fiji paid for the import was around $2000 per tonne whereas FSC exports sugar at a price of less than a thousand dollars per tonne.
