Groundbreaking ceremony for first casino held
The groundbreaking ceremony of Fiji’s first casino has taken place this afternoon in Denarau.
Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama said the casino is a new endeavor for the tourism industry with a step being undertaken by government to diversify and expand Fiji’s offerings to visitors.
The new $290 million casino will have a 1,500 capacity Conference and Convention Centre with at least 100 top end hotel rooms that will be constructed by September 2013.
The construction phase is expected to generate 900 jobs and upon completion 700 jobs for the casino.
