A 16-year-old alleged rape victim who took the stand in the Suva High Court today said she was too scared to inform her uncle that she was raped by one of her other uncles in October 2010 at their residence in Nasinu.

During examination by DPP lawyer, Josaia Niudamu, the girl informed the court she was residing at the grandmother's home with her five uncles.

She was allegedly raped by one of the uncles who was sleeping beside her.

She said she reported the matter to a police officer who is also her uncle and returned to stay at the same residence.

Defense lawyer, Vasamaca Tamanisau then asked the witness why she returned to the same residence where something bad had happened to her.

Tamanisau also said that she went back to the residence because nothing had happened on the particular day.

However the witness said she went back because she was staying there and maintained that her uncle raped her.

She said that she went back as she had to sit for her Fiji Junior Examination a week later.

Meanwhile, the 20-year-old man who is alleged to have raped his 16-year-old niece has denied the allegation in his caution interview.

The accused is expected to take the stand tomorrow.
