27-year-old Ravinesh Ronesh Lal who is charged with three counts of obtaining financial advantage by deception has been told to pay $300 to court as his trial could not start today.
Lal’s lawyer, Tobia Ravuniwa told Magistrate Hettiwattage Somaratne that his client only contacted him on Tuesday and he was not ready for the trial.
Ravuniwa told the court that his client was unreachable since 24th October last year.
Magistrate, Somaratne ordered Lal to pay $300 to court as everyone was ready for the case except him.
He said the prosecution has to pay allowances and expenses to witnesses who were present in court today.
The case has been adjourned to the 10th of June.
Lal is alleged to have created a fake Facebook account by using the profile information and picture of a well known announcer.
According to police, Lal allegedly went on to display electronic items for sale, exchanging information such as contacts from the group whereby sale proposals took place.
It is also alleged that victims of this case deposited money into Lal’s bank account but never received anything.
He then allegedly deactivated the account after the sale had taken place.
