Five postgraduate programmes in the country will not be recognized by the Ministry of Education to ensure that teachers are subject matter specialists.
As of Tuesday this week, the Ministry of Education had officially revealed that it would not recognize a Masters in Educational Leadership, Masters in Teaching and Doctor in Education from the University of Fiji.
Along with this, the Ministry will also not recognize a Masters in Education and Business Administration from the University of the South Pacific.
The Minister says these programs need to be revamped to ensure that teachers are not wasting their money in studying something which is not their focus area.
He says Universities in the country need to understand that employers are suffering because of the quality of graduates they are producing.
The University of the South Pacific says its programmes and courses are of the highest quality and widely accredited by international professional bodies.
It says the USP Masters in Business Administration and Masters in Education programmes are recognized by the Fiji Higher Education Commission.
