A man who was charged with aggravated burglary and has spent three years and three months in remand has been released by the Suva High Court.
High Court Judge Justice Salesi Temo highlighted that Johnny Mufutama and four others stole over $14,000 worth of items from a house in Namadi Heights in July 2013.
While looking at the aggravating and mitigating factors, Justice Temo sentenced the man to three years and three months today however he has served this period in remand and is now free to go home.
Meanwhile, his accomplice Paula Vura whose trial was underway in absentia has been sentenced to eight years and six months imprisonment.
Vura escaped from the Suva Court in April this year.
Justice Temo said Vura is a habitual offender as he has five previous convictions.
Justice Temo said Vura’s sentence will start once he is arrested by police.
