"The Climate Change Fund is a grant, not a loan."

The EU Ambassador to Fiji, Andrew Jacobs revealed this in a press conference today.

The EU called for an immediate press conference today after The Fiji Times had done a story where it said that "there is push for climate funds to be treated as loans and not as grants."

Jacobs says it came to him as a surprise and the fund is not for loan purposes.

He says loans have a different role to play.

He stresses that there is a need for Fiji or other Pacific island countries to understand the accessibility of these funds. He says these funds should be utilised now since climate change is a major challenge in the Pacific which is not a distant threat.

Andrew says that this is a threat that is affecting the livelihoods of the people now and the money should not be kept for coming years.
