A resident of Nidrau Road, Nausori has raised serious concerns of stray animals becoming a nuisance in his area.
58-year-old Ashok Kumar told Fijivillage that he had written a letter to the Nausori Town Council regarding stray cats and dogs in the area.
He says he has also been attacked by stray dogs in the early hours of the morning when he is going to work.
Assistant Minister for Agriculture Viam Pillay says that a team will be sent to the area sometime this week or next week to raise awareness about the Stray Animal Control Campaign.
He stresses that people need to take ownership of their animals.
The Ministry states the animals that are captured under the Stray Animal Control campaign are auctioned if they are not claimed within 10 days.
Owners who go to the pound to claim their animals have to pay pound fee, notice fee, feeding fee and distance fee.
The Ministry of Agriculture has allocated a total of $1.3 million for the Stray Animal Control Campaign.
