Minister for Health and Medical Services Rosy Akbar has stressed that decisions made in health facilities around the country must be made in line with government policies.
This is after it was found that some hospital managers do not follow this.
While speaking to senior health officials at the Ministry of Health Management meeting this morning, Akbar highlighted that visitations to health facilities around the country has revealed areas that need improvement.
The Health Minister has also stressed that if the government has made the provisions in the budget to have overtime and meal allowances paid out to workers then all senior health officials are to ensure that all medical professionals and health staff are paid in a timely manner.
She has also encouraged senior health officials to take ownership of their different health facilities and departments and identify areas that can be improved and look at new innovative initiatives and plans to enhance the services of the Health Ministry.
Meanwhile, Akbar has also highlighted significant developments within the Health Ministry that include the donation of 30 new ambulances from the People's Republic of China.
She also says that people living in the Suva‑Nausori corridor will see the opening of a new Makoi Maternity Unit on the 16th of this month and the refurbished Naulu/Nakasi Health Centre along with the Waimaro Health facility in Ra and Keyasi Health Centre.
