The Housing Authority of Fiji does not have the required manpower to effectively service all its projects and is looking offshore to recruit engineers.

This was revealed by Housing Authority Board Director Nesbitt Hazelman at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Housing Authority and the Fiji National University.

The Housing Authority is currently pursuing subdivisional projects in Nepani, Davuilevu, Matavolivoli, Tavakubu, Covata in Labasa , Koronisalusalu in Tavua and Veikoba in Nasinu which will be commencing soon

Hazelman says with all projects running concurrently, it takes a toll on the existing staff.

He says to manage the medium to long-term objectives, it is important that tertiary institutions such as the Fiji National University are harnessed to support Fiji’s manpower requirements.

Hazelman says this is the first step towards a mutually beneficial arrangement from which FNU and the Authority will benefit.

The agreement will allow the Housing Authority to provide hands-on learning experience to students in certain areas which includes civil engineering, structural engineering, land surveying, architecture and quantity surveying.
