A 26-year-old man has been sentenced to 7 years imprisonment after being convicted of sexual assault.

The man entered the home of his disabled cousin who had difficulty in speaking and walking and touched her private part on 28th June 2013 in a village in Nausori.

Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne stated that a long custodial sentence is imposed on the man to denounce his behavior and to protect the disabled people from sexual predators in the country.

A non-parole period of 6 years has been fixed.
